Practice Charter

In this medical centre we aim to provide the best possible medical care to our patients with a well trained, motivated and happy team of doctors, nurses and supporting staff. We encourage you to be involved in your health care and to participate in a partnership with the medical team. This two-way relationship allows us to make the best decisions about your care and treatment.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • To be treated with courtesy, respect and confidentiality.
  • To have access to a GP or Practice Nurse within 48 hours.
  • To be offered a same day appointment for emergency problems.
  • To be given telephone advice for minor illness if requested.
  • We will try and give you as much time as you need during surgeries and clinics.
  • We will provide a large number of specialist clinics.
  • We will prescribe the most appropriate treatment and will discuss your medication fully with you.
  • We will try and provide all repeat prescriptions within 24 hours of ordering.
  • We will give all repeat prescriptions on a 28 day cycle.

What We Expect From You

  • Please treat doctors, nurses, staff and other health professionals with courtesy and respect. As a training practice doctors of all nationalities work here. Patients requesting a specific doctor on the basis of race will be not be tolerated.
  • We will not tolerate abusive/violent behaviour of any sort and we may ask that violent or abusive patients are removed from our list.
  • Use the appointment system properly; choose whether a doctor or nurse is the best person to see for your problem.
  • Attend for your appointments on time (or you may have to wait until the end of surgery to be seen).
  • Don't ask for someone else to be seen during your appointment or ask for a repeat prescription for others.
  • Cancel appointments in plenty of time to enable them to be given to somebody else.
  • Don't be afraid to ring for advice instead of making an appointment.
  • Use the Out of Hours service appropriately.
  • Try to get to surgery but should a visit be necessary telephone before 10.00am.
  • Remember, a pharmacist can give advice on minor illness.
  • Be patient, do not blame the receptionists if surgeries are running late.
  • Attend when invited and cancel unwanted appointments promptly as clinic time is valuable - repeat prescriptions cannot always be provided at these clinics and should be ordered in the usual way.
  • Give 24 hours notice when ordering repeat prescriptions.
  • Get to know the name of the medications you are taking and what they are for.
  • Be prepared to have regular views.
  • Be prepared to accept that you don't always need a prescription.
